Good news: I believe the New York Liberty made a huge step by recruiting another legendary broadcaster from around the world.
This coming season, fans of the New York Liberty will be able to watch their games for free thanks to a new partnership with a local television station.
For the 2024 season, the team has an agreement with WNYW FOX5 to have their games televised locally. Liberty games were previously carried on the cable regional sports network YES Network; however, as a result of the new rights agreement, FOX5 and its sister station My9 in the New York City television market will divide the local broadcasts. According to the team, the channels are available to 7.5 million households in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. The Fox Local App will also offer streaming for them.
As part of this new deal, the Liberty’s season opener on May 14 against the Washington Mystics will be televised locally. The Liberty are the favorites to return to the WNBA Finals after their most recent trip there.
“In today’s ever-expanding media landscape, it is imperative that we expand our local reach and ensure that we are widely accessible wherever fans watch Liberty games,” stated Keia Clarke, CEO of Liberty.
