AMSTERDAM: On Thursday, Ajax Amsterdam announced the appointment of Alfred Schreuder as their new coach. Erik ten Hag will be joining Manchester United.

With Ajax, Schreuder, 49, has inked a two-year contract. Schreuder is poised to lead Club Brugge to the Belgian championship.

Schreuder worked as Ten Hag’s assistant for eighteen months at Ajax and with Ronald Koeman at Barcelona the previous year.
Since January, he has served as head coach of Brugge, Twente, and Hoffenheim, all Bundesliga teams.

They have overcame early losses to take the lead in the Belgian league as the season draws to a close, and a victory on Sunday would guarantee them the championship.

“I seize the honor and wonderful opportunity to take on the role of head coach at Ajax. I want to win championships in Amsterdam with a football squad that plays visually appealing games. In a statement posted on the Ajax website, he added, “With a good balance between many great talents and experienced top players.”
“First, though, I want to help Club Brugge win the season. I’ll use every effort to see that through.”

An agreement on Alfred Schreuder’s transfer to Ajax has been reached between Ajax, Club Brugge, and Ajax. After this season, Schreuder will sign a two-year contract that expires on June 30, 2024. A third season is an option included in the deal.

Schreuder (Barneveld, 2 November 1972) will lead Ajax’s first team as head coach. From January 2018 to January 2019, the coach served as Erik Ten Hag’s assistant coach in his former role. He participated in both the First Division and the Eredivisie as a player, winning the title in each league once. The former midfield player has also once won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Schaal.
