Jason King, a life member of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, has declared his retirement from the National Rugby League at the conclusion of the 2014 season.

The 33-year-old King, who has participated in 235 NRL games to date, declared that he was prepared to end his playing career after 14 seasons at the top.

He will leave the game having played a major role in making the Sea Eagles the most dominant team of the previous ten years, including a large portion of that time spent as their captain.

Making the choice to stop playing the game I love is not simple. At the end of the season, I feel like it’s the proper time to hang up the boots because I’ve given it a lot of thought and have talked about it with my family a lot,” King stated.

“I will always be a part of the Sea Eagles. I’m really proud to have had the opportunity to play first-grade football for my local club for such a long time because I was a Belrose Eagle when I was younger.

“The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have an aura that was established long before I was born.” Ken Arthurson, Steve Menzies, Bob Fulton, Terry Randall, and Geoff Toovey are a few names that spring to mind. Over the course of the previous 14 seasons, I hope that I have helped to maintain this aura in some way.

“Over the years, there have been some incredible highlights and wonderful experiences for me. Obviously, it ranks highly to win the 2008 Grand Final in the manner that we did after losing it the previous year. Likewise, the 2011 Grand Final, even though I was unable to play on the field with the boys and wear the NSW Blue jersey. I will always treasure the memories I have of them all, since they all meant a lot to me.
