Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has disclosed that Brandon Williams has returned to Manchester United for a “medical assessment.”
The 23-year-old, who signed a loan with Ipswich Town at the start of the season, scored against Preston in October and gave one of his best performances for the Championship club. However, since then, he has only made three league appearances because of injuries and illness.
According to McKenna, reporters were informed by the East Anglian Daily Times that Brandon was back at Manchester United and was currently in Manchester.
He spent the week back there being evaluated by their medical staff due to an earlier bout of injuries and a more recent illness. As a result, he won’t be playing for us tomorrow (against Sunderland).
“After that, we’ll need to have a talk, and hopefully he’s available and healthy enough to return so we can see the Brandon Williams we knew in October and November again.”
When asked about Williams’ ailments in particular, McKenna said, “He’s had various things.” He has experienced a few minor bumps on his body, a soft tissue injury, and some illness; therefore, their medical staff is evaluating him.
Then, the media questioned McKenna—a former United coach—about whether he would prefer that Williams stay on loan for the remainder of the season.
That’s what we would want. I believe that over the fall, we got to see tidbits of what he can give at his finest, but that hasn’t happened in a while.
“We will need to decide what will work best for the second half of the year, in consultation with his parent club as well.”
Given how much time Williams has missed due to injury, Ipswich needs to ascertain when he will be fully fit again.
