EST LANSING — As Michigan State football gets ready to start Big Ten play next week, key injuries are piling up.
In the second quarter of Saturday’s 41-7 loss to No. 8 Washington, starting cornerback Charles Brantley left the game and did not come back. Additionally, Tyneil Hopper, a tight end, was hauled off late in the fourth quarter following a catch.
After the game, interim head coach Harlon Barnett did not have an update on Hopper. However, the Boise State transfer shared photos on social media early on Sunday morning, showing his lower right leg immobilized in a hospital bed.
Before the game, MSU declared that Alex VanSumeren, a defensive tackle, and Gavin Broscious and Stanton Ramil, an offensive lineman, would be out for the entire campaign.
WE HAVE NO CHOICE: MSU needs to move on after its humiliating defeat to Washington.
Starting running back Nathan Carter was also forced to leave the game twice for the Spartans: once due to an apparent injury to his left knee, and again after taking a blow to the head and turning awkwardly after a sailed ball from Noah Kim. However, Carter was able to return from both instances.
Actin head coach Harlon Barnett did not immediately have an update on Hopper after the game, but the Boise State transfer posted pictures Sunday morning on his social media account from a hospital bed with his lower right leg immobilized.
MSU announced before kickoff that three players are out for the season: defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren and offensive linemen Gavin Broscious and Stanton Ramil.
The Spartans also saw starting running back Nathan Carter leave the game twice — first with an apparent left leg injury, then following a hit to the head followed by an awkward, twisting fall on a sailed Noah Kim pass — but he returned from both situations.
