On Wednesday, a key member of Calgary’s 2014 Grey Cup-winning squad made his retirement known.
Shawn Lemon, a seasoned defensive lineman who has three Grey Cups amongst three separate teams, announced his retirement from the CFL.
In December, the 35-year-old Lemon agreed to extend his contract with the Montreal Alouettes by one year.

Shawn Lemon, a seasoned defensive lineman who has three Grey Cups amongst three separate teams, announced his retirement from the CFL.
Montreal went 12-4, including in the postseason, after adding Lemon and won the Grey Cup. In 13 regular-season games, he recorded 26 defensive tackles, 9 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble.
The South Carolina native also received his 100th CFL sack.
Lemon spent experience with every CFL team outside the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, starting his professional career as a practice roster player with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2011. He went on to win Grey Cups with Calgary in 2014 and Toronto in 2017.
With the Stampeders, Lemon enjoyed one of his best seasons to date in 2022, ranking second in the league in sacks.
“Believe in yourself and perfect your art. Follow through with your goal, but keep in mind that I don’t really regard 34 as elderly.” He stated.
“You change up your training to fit how your body is feeling but like I said, I feel amazing,” he commented. “I feel like I’m 23-years-old and I’m not just saying that – I honestly do.”
In a retirement statement he shared on X on Wednesday, Lemon expressed gratitude to Canadian football fans and the CFL for their support over his 14-year career.
“Throughout my career, you guys have been nothing but amazing to me,” he remarked. “I recall joining with the Canadian Football League my first year in Canada. Who knew that things would turn out better in my life? Every play, every moment, and every stadium I’ve played in has been enjoyable.
