He announced his marriage on Instagram, saying, “Not only have I begun a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me.”

Before going professional in 2019 with the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women’s Japan Basketball League, she began her career as a player for Waseeda University. The five-foot-11 forward joined the squad in 2023 and played for four years before retiring.
Tanaka shot 47.7% from the field and 69.9% from the free throw line in 28 games during her final season in 2023, according to ESPN.
After announcing his marriage, Ohtani referred to Tanaka as a “normal Japanese woman” at a press conference.
As per the translation provided by CNN and the Associated Press, the baseball player requested that the media refrain from contacting his relatives and acquaintances for additional details regarding his spouse.
According to CNN, Ohtani wrote in Japanese, “The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married.”
“We hope you will warmly watch over us, as we are still young and there are many things we do not know yet,” he said. “We want to move forward with our fans and support each other as a team, the two of us and one dog included.”
