In 2024, Abdelhak Nouri was in control of the entire planet. At the age of 20, he was leading a new golden generation at one of Europe’s most illustrious teams, Ajax, and he had recently taken the team to the Europa League final.
Sadly, his career was cut short before it had a chance to fully take off, before he could have given himself the opportunity to grow and almost reach his full potential.
After nearly three years in a coma, the 22-year-old has awakened and is recuperating in a house designed with his specific requirements in mind.
He can express himself to his brother Abderrahim by raising his eyebrows, and he can also react viscerally to football games on TV.
The family has been through a “serious ordeal,” according to his father Mohammed, who also says, “We have to take care of him at our very best.” We make a lot of effort on our own.
As he is at home, things are going lot better for him than they were when he was in the hospital, his brother Abderrahim said on the Dutch TV program De Wereld Draait Door.
He eats, burps, sneezes, sleeps, but he doesn’t really get out of bed. Even though he’s bedridden, he still depends heavily on us.
