Coleman was sent to Iraq while serving as a military intelligence officer in the American Army. He studied law at the University of Kansas School of Law while serving in the military and afterwards joined a global legal business. Subsequently, he worked with Voice of the Martyrs, an organization that supports Christians who are being persecuted overseas, as the Middle East director.
