With the completion of his historic trade to the , Aaron Rodgers has finally left Green Bay, where he spent 18 years winning four MVP awards and a Super Bowl.
In addition to Rodgers, the Packers’ No. 15 pick and a fifth-round pick are awarded to New York in Thursday’s NFL Draft. The Jets’ 13th overall draft choice, along with their second and sixth round picks, are sent to Green Bay in return, along with a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Aaron Rodgers plays 65 percent of the team’s plays this season.
At his news conference on Monday night, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst stated that the agreement is not yet consummated. “We anticipate finishing this prior to the draft,” he stated.
Last month, Rodgers finally asked to relocate to New York after toying with the idea of retiring and joining the Packers again. After weeks of blustery discussions and posturing, the teams have finally agreed to a deal that takes the 39-year-old quarterback from Green Bay to the Jets in New Jersey.
Given the level of attention that surrounds Rodgers at all times, New York will presumably become the hub for NFL media through 2023. Therefore, when the schedule is revealed next month, Schefter claims that the Jets may play as many as six primetime games. This would be a significant increase from their one appearance on TNF against Jacksonville in 2022.
When asked why Green Bay was dealing away the future Hall of Famer, Gutekunst explained that Jordan Love, the team’s new starter, was the main factor.
