Sad report: Brian Daboll shed tears as New York Giants introduced new coach to the team

The New York Giants have appointed Brian Daboll as their next head coach.

The 46-year-old Daboll, the former offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, will take over for Joe Judge, who was dismissed by the Giants on Friday night following a 4-13 campaign.

Following a search spearheaded by newly appointed general manager Joe Schoen, the Giants selected Daboll from among six formal contenders. For the position, the Giants conducted interviews with Daboll, Leslie Frazier of the Bills, Brian Flores, the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Dan Quinn of the Dallas Cowboys, Lou Anarumo of Cincinnati, and Patrick Graham of the Giants. On Thursday, Quinn, the former Atlanta Falcons head coach, withdrew from consideration.

In the past, Schoen had expressed his desire for a head coach who would work “in lockstep” with him and who would share his vision for developing a football squad.

In a team statement, Schoen stated, “We interviewed several people who are incredible coaches, all of whom are going to enjoy much more success in this league in their current positions and as head coaches.” Having said that, ownership and I agreed that Brian is the best candidate to lead our team as head coach. I have had the opportunity to personally witness Brian’s leadership qualities over the past four years. He is a highly skilled communicator, as well as intelligent, inventive, and diligent. Brian has a refreshingly warm and sincere personality. He cultivates connections with the coaches and players in his vicinity. His vision is progressive, and he appreciates teamwork—two qualities we believe are critical. Brian and his family are moving to this side of the state, and I am excited to be working with them.

He looked at a face he knew well to discover that. Naturally, Schoen and Daboll collaborated during the previous four seasons in Buffalo, where Schoen served as Brandon Beane’s assistant general manager. In 2011, they collaborated with the Miami Dolphins as well.
