Sad report: Pat Roessler shed tears as New York Yankees introduced new coach to the team

The Post revealed on Saturday that Pat Roessler will likely join the team as an assistant hitting coach, joining James Rowson, the new hitting coach.

First to report on Roessler’s return to New York was NJ Advance Media.

Under Rowson, Roessler will work alongside Casey Dykes as an assistant. Roessler was the hitting coach for the Mets in 2018 and served as an assistant coach from 2023 to 2024.

He first met Rowson while working as the Yankees’ minor league hitting coordinator from 2005 to 2014. At the time, he was the team’s director of player development.
The 64-year-old Roessler, who was the Nationals’ assistant hitting coach from 2020 to 2023 (Juan Soto was dealt to the Padres midseason in 2022), also has experience with the new Yankees slugger.

The hiring, which is not yet official, keeps changing the hitting lineup for the Yankees.

They had Brad Wilkerson and Dykes as assistants, and Dillon Lawson as hitting coach going into the previous campaign.
Due to the offense’s severe struggles, Lawson was fired at the All-Star break. Sean Casey took over as head coach for the remainder of the season.

Due to familial concerns, Casey decided not to come back in 2024, which is why the Yankees hired Rowson in November to be their new hitting coach.
