The likelihood of Sunderland signing Luciano Rodriguez becomes more apparent.
The former target of the North East side was Luciano Rodriguez.
The owner of Manchester City and numerous other teams worldwide, City Football Group, is interested in repurchasing former Sunderland target Luciano Rodriguez.
Luciano Rodriguez is wanted by City Football Group.
The 2003-born Uruguayan winger, who is part of his country’s team for the current round of international games, is being carefully investigated by the organization, according to football transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.
According to Romano, they would not go over $15 million in their offer for the forward, who plays for Liverpool UY in his own country. It’s not obvious whose club in the group’s portfolio he would sign with in the event of a contract.
Journalist Alan Nixon first connected the teenager to Sunderland back in November. Stuart Harvey, the club’s head of recruitment, had reportedly traveled to South America to observe Rodriguez, he said. According to the Sunderland Echo, he’s “an ambitious target for the Black Cats.”
South American football expert and developer of football content Nathan Joyes disclosed how much he believed Sunderland could get him for. “In terms of cost, Fabricio Diaz moved from Liverpool to Al-Gharafa in the summer for around €6-8million (£5-7 million),” stated Joyes. “I’d guess Rodriguez’s fee would be close to half that amount.”
Numerous other elite clubs in Europe have expressed interest in signing the goal-scoring pro. According to reports from Spain, Rodriguez was being pursued by both Real Madrid and Barcelona, as reported by the Echo. Romano also mentioned that Feyenoord, a Dutch club, had been interested in signing the Uruguayan since the beginning of the January transfer season.
The forward will be happy with all of the attention from Europe because he is reportedly eager to relocate and play football on the continent.
Luciano Rodriguez: The wonderchild of Uruguay
The right-winger, who is 20 years old, has made an impression both at home and abroad. Only recently did Uruguay’s top division, the Primera División, begin play, and so far, Rodriguez has scored twice in five games. He contributed a total of 13 goals and assists in 31 games during the previous campaign.
Out of all of his diamond potential, there are some areas where he has proven to be a bit rough around the edges. He only completes 67% of his passes, struggles to win duels, and has committed five mistakes this season that have resulted in shots, according to Sofascore.
He scored the game-winning goal in the under-20 World Cup final versus Italy. In 18 games over his career, the forward has scored 11 goals for his nation’s under-20 and under-23 teams.
He prefers to come in from the right and occupy space more centrally, despite being natively right-footed, as evidenced by his heatmaps from this season and the previous one.
There is little likelihood that Sunderland will get Luciano Rodriguez.
It was always going to be difficult for the Black Cats to get their hands on him. Considering some of the other teams that were snooping around the future stars, they were never going to be the largest dog in the fight.
- Their proposal would have been clear to him. “We want you to be the jewel in our crown and hopefully you can take us to the Premier League, or we can sell you there, in a few years’ time. We are building one of the youngest, most exciting teams in Europe.” Would that have been sufficient to compete with the other brands they face? Most likely not. It appears certain that Rodriguez will fulfill his dream of playing in Europe. That simply cannot be for Sunderland.
