On July 12, 2017, an international boxer from New Zealand became a member of the MNUFC. He had previously competed for his nation in the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. The seasoned defender, a mainstay of the Minnesota defense since the team’s founding season, provides leadership and experience to the backline.

Boxall is the Loon with the most game appearances (over 150 total across all competitions) in his six seasons with the team, having joined MLS. All four of Boxall’s MLS goals have been scored with MNUFC; his most recent goal tied Supporters’ Shield winners LAFC in the season’s final home game.

Boxall passed Miguel Ibarra on the club’s all-time appearance list on September 19, 2020, and concluded the season with 95 career appearances. Minnesota looks. Before the team’s inaugural MLS season, he was chosen first overall in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft, and he made his MLS debut with the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Beyond Major League Soccer, Boxall has spent seasons in the Australian A-League with Wellington Phoenix, the South African Premier Division’s SuperSport United (where he led the team to back-to-back Nedbank Cup titles), Auckland FC (where he won the New Zealand Football Championship), Central United FC (where he won the 2007 Northern Premier League title), and Wellington Phoenix (where he won the Australian A-League).

During the off-season, Michael and his spouse, Libby, alternate between their residences in New Zealand and Minnesota. Maxwell Milou is the daughter, and Beau Beckham is the son that they have.
