The all-time great A New York Yankees player announced his retirement due to his wife

In addition to being one of baseball’s top relievers when he was a member of the New York Yankees, Dellin Betances’ constant high velocity helped create the modern era in which relievers often toss pitches that approach 100 mph. Regretfully, Betances’s control issues and injuries finally caught up with him. Additionally, it was revealed on Wednesday that Betances, who was only 34, had retired.

The revelation was reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Former Yankees closer Dellin Betances, a free agent, was an All-Star. He has since retired. had been employed by the Dodgers.

Following the announcement of Betances’ retirement, the MLB community reflected on his brief but exceptional career.

What a peak—his breaking ball, which defied categorization, was an extremely entertaining photo.@H4kOnURkaz on Twitter

For a while, Betances was electric right out of the bullpen. https://t.co/wlGc9jvm1k

One of the first athletes I can recall reading about before being drafted was Betances. There wasn’t as much information available on amateur players in 2006, but it’s difficult to forget reading about a 6’8″ New York high school student who threw 98. I’m happy to hear that he had a highly successful MLB career. This link: t.co/jkfVC1wsAg

It would be wise for the Yankees to hire Dellin Betances as a coach if he is willing to undertake the role. Huge prospect. fought. transformed into a four-time All-Star reliever.. Kid from NYC. One of the best clubhouse guys ever.

It’s unfortunate to see it end. Among the five relievers with multiple seasons of 130 or more strikeouts are Josh Hader, Goose Gossage, Rob Dibble, Dick Radatz, and Dellin Betances. The URL is t.co/XdzeMFUdzW.

In 2011, Betances had two appearances with the Yankees. He was in the minors for the majority of 2013 and all of 2012. It was declared that Betances would be a reliever during the 2013 campaign. In 2014, he was added to the Opening Day roster and saw rapid success. From 2014 to 2017, Betances was a member of the American League All-Star team each season.

Betances played in 349 games with the Yankees between 2014 and 2018. During that span, he recorded a 2.22 ERA, 1.018 WHIP, 607 strikeouts, and a 14.6 K/9 rate. And even though he was playing in Yankee Stadium, which is hitter-friendly, and throwing hard, he only let up 25 home runs throughout that time, for an HR/9 rate of 0.6, which is far better than the league average. And while Betances’ primary function at that time was setup, he did manage 36 game saves.

Betances was only able to make one appearance in 2019 due to injuries. After the 2019 campaign, he became a member of the New York Mets. Betances made 15 appearances in 2020 and recorded a 7.71 ERA and 2.057 WHIP. Not only did he issue 12 free passes in 11.2 innings pitched with only 11 strikeouts, but he also had more walks than strikeouts and innings pitched.

In 2021, Betances played in just one game for the Mets. Before retiring, he signed a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, but he was never able to reach the major leagues.
