Report: punter Cameron Johnston will join the Steelers as Mike Tomlin has officially announced.
According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston on Monday, punter Cameron Johnston, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans, has reached an agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers haven’t taken any action since the formal start of the legal tampering period on Monday at 12 p.m. ET.
After Pressley Harvin III, the punter the Steelers selected in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was released, he will take over as Pittsburgh’s new punter. After an uneven three years with the Steelers, during which he averaged a career-low 38.0 net yards per punt, Harvin was cut go.
Australia-born punter Johnston, who stands 5’11 and weighs 194 pounds, has spent the previous three seasons with the Texans. Throughout his career, he has averaged 47.3 yards per punt, which puts him third among the league’s active punters.
The agreement’s terms are still unknown.

With a Super Bowl winner at quarterback, the Steelers are starting over.
On Sunday night, Russell Wilson and the Steelers agreed to a contract. It’s reportedly a one-year contract worth the $1.2 million league minimum.
The remaining $37.8 million in Wilson’s contract will be covered by the Denver Broncos, who told Wilson last week that he will be released.
Kenny Pickett, who was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2022 draft, will no longer be the starting lineup, at least for the time being.
Wilson experienced difficulties while in Denver, but he recently produced consecutive 4,000-yard passing seasons in 2020 and 2019 with Seattle.
The 35-year-old veteran will now try to lead the Steelers, who placed 25th in the league in passing the previous season, to greater heights and a resurgence in title contention.
