QB move made by commanders in light of Jacoby Brissett’s uncertain status for the 49ers game.
The NFL season of 2023–24 has not been easy for the Washington Commanders. Ahead of their matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, the Commanders are 4-11. Although injured, veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been a positive addition to the team; however, his availability for Sunday’s game is in doubt. Washington has thus moved to acquire former QB Jake Fromm of the New York Giants.
Prior to their 49ers game, the Commanders strengthen their quarterback depth.
According to Ian Rapoport, Jake Fromm has signed a contract with the Commanders in advance of their game on Sunday. The 2020 Draft selected the 25-year-old quarterback in the fifth round. During his brief time with the Giants in 2021, Fromm completed 210 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown.
It is hoped that the Georgia product gives Washington depth in light of Jacoby Brissett’s hamstring injury. During the Commanders’ Week 16 loss to the New York Jets, Brissett played admirably. His day of 100 yards and one touchdown nearly brought Washington back.
It might not matter in the end if Brissett is unable to contribute his skills against the 49ers. Without a doubt, the Commanders want to compete and succeed. But with a losing record and a last-place NFC East position, they can afford to take chances with a backup like Fromm.
Due to Jacoby Brissett’s unexpected hamstring injury, the Commanders may have to use Sam Howell in Week 17 of the Commanders’ Surprisingly, Jacoby Brissett replaced Sam Howell as the starting quarterback in the Week 17 injury report.

The 49ers aim to increase their winning percentage when playing the Commanders in the interim. San Francisco leads the NFC West going into the game with an 11-4 record. The 49ers are considered by many as one of the favorites to win a Super Bowl.
The two MVP contenders for San Francisco, Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy, are outstanding. In order to neutralize the 49ers’ potent offense, the Commanders must put all hands on deck.
Nevertheless, Washington will be able to secure a win and defend their home field if they execute well and work as a team.
