Chicago After spending the previous nine seasons with the rival Milwaukee Brewers, new manager Craig Counsell announced that he was ready for a new challenge, one “where he had to push himself.” On Monday, he made his Cubs debut at Wrigley Field.

Counsell, 53, claimed that although he had been thinking about making a move for the previous few years, he was unaware that he would wind up in Chicago until last week, when he signed a $40 million, five-year contract to succeed fired David Ross.

Counsell remarked, “It’s been an emotional week.” Harder than I thought it would be. Simply put, how quickly all of this occurred

I have great affection for the Brewers. There, I have wonderful relationships. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got to try to forge new relationships in Chicago. In this game, they are what matter.”

Counsell claimed to have “underestimated” the degree of resentment Brewers supporters have for him for switching to a competitor.

Counsell remarked, “That was my calculation gone wrong.” “Looking back, I am really proud of what transpired in Milwaukee. I believe everything we accomplished in the nine years I was the manager there will appear good in the eyes of time.”
