Tony Hutson, an offensive lineman with the Dallas Cowboys, passed away. His age was 49.
Hutson’s passing was revealed in an obituary that was released on Friday. The reason of death was not stated.
The former NFL athlete was raised in Houston, Texas, but was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1974. He went on to play in the NFL for six seasons, starting his career with the Dallas Cowboys for four of those seasons.
Hutson’s cousin Marlo Burks wrote in reaction to his obituary, describing Tony as “extremely humble [and] having the sweetest heart and the most beautiful soul.” “Every fiber of Tony’s being was dedicated to his family.”
There will be a wake and funeral later this week.
After spending two years as a football player at Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas, Hutson transferred to Northeastern Oklahoma State University to complete his undergraduate studies. Before entering the NFL Draft, the 6-foot-3 lineman at Northeastern Oklahoma State was awarded an All-American in his junior and senior years.
Hutson was not selected by any clubs in the 1996 NFL Draft, though, as a result of a benign tumor found in his right lung, which scared them away, according to The Oklahoman.
“I feared I would never get to play football again,” Hutson said in an interview with the newspaper that year. But then I realized that life is about more than just sports. All I wanted was to go about my life. I prayed about it and discussed it with my mother.
