Due to his wife, the New York Yankees captain is suspended because of how he treats his wife, and…

NEW YORK Jimmy Cordero, a reliever for the Yankees, agreed to serve a suspended sentence for the whole 2023 regular season and postseason after breaking MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence policy.

Aaron Judge, the captain of the Yankees, stated, “It definitely came as a surprise to a lot of us,” on Wednesday afternoon, not long after the league made its announcement.

The judge expressed her hope that both the man and his family would receive assistance. “I am thinking of his family right now.”

Following the Yankees’ 8-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon, Cordero had a private conversation with Judge and a number of other teammates on the eve of his suspension.

Judge stated, “A lot of the guys on the team are upset,” and that “he kind of just filled me in on what’s going to happen.”

A few days earlier, Cordero had also gone up to Aaron Boone and informed the manager about MLB’s investigation.

MLB and the Yankees, who were not a part of the league’s investigation, declined to provide any information about that investigation.

Boone described their most recent conversation as “a little vague and all over,” but he didn’t want to go into too much detail. Cordero clarified that “an investigation was going on, essentially.”
The Yankees declared that they “fully supported Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Cordero” in a statement issued by the team.

“We support the goals, guidelines, and implementation of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy, and we reject any excuse for domestic abuse.”

Cordero’s locker was empty inside the Yankees clubhouse, and his nameplate was taken off.

It was unclear how or even if he would be accepted back in 2024. Judge remarked, “I think that’s a ways away.”

Yankees pitcher Domingo German was placed on administrative leave in September 2019.
