Tragic news: Caroline Ducharme’s injury surprised all UConn Huskies women’s basketball fans, since she is completely out of commission.
(AP) STORRS, Conn. Due to persistent issues with her head and neck, UConn guard Caroline Ducharme will miss the rest of the season, the university said on Tuesday. The junior is now the seventh player from the No. 8 Huskies to miss the entire season due to medical problems. Junior guard Azzi Fudd sustained a season-ending knee injury in November, senior forward Aubrey Griffin sustained a similar injury earlier this month, and post player Ayanna Patterson underwent knee surgery in December. Freshman forward Jana El Alfy was sidelined by an Achilles tendon injury during the preseason.
She missed 17 games the previous year, and four in her rookie year. With an average of four points and two rebounds per game, she has only participated in four games this year. In a statement, Ducharme stated, “It has honestly been a frustrating process with many ups and downs.” “At this point, it was decided to take a step back and not play for the remainder of the 2023–24 season in order to devote all of my attention to my recovery.”
Nine players are available for the Huskies (16-3, 8-0 Big East) against Marquette (15-3, 4-3) on Tuesday night due to ailments.
