Due to his best player’s injury, the head coach of the uccon men’s basketball team shed heartbreaking tears.

In the second half of Wednesday night’s game against Seton Hall in Newark, New Jersey, Donovan Clingan, a 7-foot-2 sophomore center from Bristol, sustained a tendon injury in his right foot that will keep him out of action for three to four weeks.

Clingan leads the fifth-ranked Huskies, who play St. John’s on Saturday at 8 p.m. at XL Center. This season, Clingan is averaging 13.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. 6-10 junior Samson Johnson, who has been Clingan’s backup, and 6-10 rookie Youssouf Singare, who hasn’t played much, will need to step up for UConn.

Clingan’s first miss as a Husky will come on Saturday against St. John’s. He missed nearly a month of the preseason due to a foot injury, but he was able to play in UConn’s season opener against Northern Arizona on November 6.
