This contest between two national powers turned into a pitching battle after both teams managed to score 78 runs in the tournament before this game. Kelly Maxwell of Oklahoma put on one of her best games of her career to help the Sooners defeat the Bruins 1-0.

Maxwell reached a season-high 11 runs scored in the game when she struck out UCLA’s Thessa Malau’ulu in the top of the seventh inning. The Oklahoma State graduate transfer

threw 116 pitches and surrendered just two hits in her first complete game since the tournament opener against Oregon.

“I’m proud of this team and I’m proud I made this decision (to transfer),” Maxwell said on the field after the game.

Tiare Jennings’ solo home run for the Sooners in the third inning was the difference on the day. It marked her ninth career Women’s College World Series home run as Oklahoma earned its 11th win in a row.
