unbearable; Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy has just announced his.
Few people in university athletics today can say they have been with a program from the start. Few people can claim to have been there from the program’s inception all the way from its conception to its current state. And nobody, starting his 22nd season as the program’s head coach in 2020, can perhaps say that they have advanced a program further and in less time than Crimson Tide head softball coach Patrick Murphy.
Murphy has elevated Alabama to the pinnacle of the NCAA softball scene, from a modest beginning to a national championship. Since his early years as an assistant with the Alabama softball program, Murphy has been the face of a group that has expanded.
The successes are readily apparent to all. Among the many team accolades Murphy has brought to Tuscaloosa during his career are a 2012 National Championship, twelve Women’s College World Series trips, six SEC regular season titles, four SEC Tournament titles, and twenty-one consecutive NCAA Tournament bids.
The individual accolades are just as remarkable. Under Murphy’s direction, Alabama players have been named to the NFCA All-America team 57 times. He has served as a teacher for 101 NFCA All-Region winners and 102 All-SEC performances. With 234 SEC Honor Roll selections and 26 CoSIDA Academic All-America awards, his teams have achieved academic success in the classroom as well.
