Saban abruptly announced his resignation from Alabama on Wednesday, shocking the sports world. Speculation began to circulate about who would follow the famous head coach.
Names included Oregon’s Dan Lanning, Florida State’s Mike Norvell, and Washington’s DeBoer. Both Lanning and Norvell resorted to social media to dispel the Crimson Tide claims. However, DeBoer stayed silent on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday morning, DeBoer canceled a previously scheduled local radio interview.
DeBoer apparently had an in-person meeting with Washington Athletic Director Troy Dannen at the time. Contract negotiations with Alabama loomed on Friday afternoon, according to reports. Kalen DeBoer will become the next head.
