Nice update: the head coach of the Tampa Bay Rays tells them how he is.

After being showered with beer, champagne, Gatorade, shaving cream, baby powder, and who knows what else, Kevin Cash came out of the clubhouse.

“A few of them “I am sure I wanted to throw some punches in there at the same time,” the Rays manager remarked to much amusement following his team’s record 755th victory on Saturday night, a 3-1 victory over the visiting Mets. Cash overtook his successor, Joe Maddon.

As they say, laughter is the best medicine, and the Rays did not have much of it in the first five weeks of the season. They were 14–18 going into a weekend series against the Mets, having just returned from a 1–5 road trip that saw them get swept by the White Sox and score all four runs in two of the Brewers’ three losses. But on Saturday night, as Tampa Bay toasted the manager’s accomplishment, there was nothing but joy.

With regard to the clubhouse celebration, Cash remarked, “They were pretty pumped.” “We have a very nice group of guys. I’m grateful to all of them as well as the guys from earlier. The day was enjoyable. Though it took a while, I’m glad it’s finally here.

The achievement happened little over nine years after Cash defeated the Orioles 2-0 in the season’s opening game on April 8, 2015. That was Buck Showalter in the opposing dugout managing.

Looking back on the game, Cash, a Rays player in 2005, stated, “It was quite the honor to go up against him.”
