On Tuesday afternoon, Windy Thees, the ninth head softball coach in the history of the program, was hired by Indiana State University and Director of Athletics Nathan Christensen.

With more than 25 years of collegiate coaching experience, including positions as head coach at Georgia College & State University, Winthrop, Ole Miss, and Memphis, Thees joins the Sycamores.

Christensen remarked, “I am thrilled to welcome Windy to the Indiana State family.” “She stood out throughout our process due to her excellent track record both on the field and in the classroom, as well as her reputation for producing championship student-athletes. We are confident that she can carry on strengthening our softball program and setting up the Sycamores to dominate the Missouri Valley Conference.”

Thees and her Aggie team would continue to build on their accomplishments the next year, finishing 2017 with a league-best 33-18 overall record and a 14-9 record in the Mountain West. Thees produced a pitching staff that had the lowest ERA among Utah State pitchers since 1998 that season, with a 3.09 ERA. She also produced Kellie White, a pitcher who led the position in 2017 with a 2.51 ERA and was named to the All-Mountain West First Team. Brina Buttracavoli, a senior catcher, was selected to the All-Mountain West Second Team in 2018.
