Baltimore, Maryland (AP) – In game one of a crucial series, the Rays defeated the Orioles 4-3 on Thursday night thanks to a tiebreaking home run from Luke Raley and a 12-batter outburst by Tampa Bay’s bullpen.

The Rays’ relievers have now gone 34 innings without giving up an earned run, bringing them within one game of first-place Baltimore in the AL East.

The Orioles’ Ryan O’Hearn and Gunnar Henderson both homered, but in the seventh inning, with the score knotted at three, Raley drove a pitch to center field off Kyle Bradish (11-7).

For the Rays, Randy Arozarena hit a two-run triple in the third and Brandon Lowe got an RBI single.

Aaron Civale, the starter for Tampa Bay, allowed four hits and three runs in five innings with eight strikeouts.

Together, Colin Poche (12-3), Shawn Armstrong, Robert Stephenson, and Pete Fairbanks retired 12 straight hitters, with Fairbanks recording his 24th save in 26 opportunities by striking out the side.
