NFL free agency has begun, and with analysis from our NFL Nation writers and expert ratings, we’re keeping tabs on every significant signing, trade, and release of the 2024 offseason. Free agent signings can become official after the new league year kicks off on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. ESPN will air the first round of the 2024 NFL draft on April 25.
The following lists every 2024 NFL free agent that the Green Bay Packers signed, along with an analysis of how each will affect the forthcoming campaign:

Nixon is returning to the Packers for the 2024 campaign.
What it implies:The Packers continue to think that having a dynamic kick returner is beneficial. While Nixon will have the opportunity to play defense as their nickel cornerback again in 2024, new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley may have other plans for Nixon or that position. Without a doubt, though, Nixon’s strongest suit is his return game. As the current two-time All-Pro returner, he will now have the opportunity to play for the same team for three straight seasons.
What’s at risk: Another modification to the kickoff rule has been discussed, which would significantly reduce the value of that position. Additionally, the Packers are effectively just paying for a return man if they decide to try someone else at the slot corner position.

Josh Jacobs, a running back
The former Raider Jacobs and the Packers reached an agreement on a four-year, $48 million contract after Aaron Jones was released.
What it implies: The Jones era is coming to a close, and what a run it was for the fifth-round choice in 2017. At this moment, the Packers are choosing Jacobs over Jones, who is over three years younger at 26. However, it showed that they valued the running game so much that they wouldn’t risk it by selecting an untested rookie, even if it meant receiving a high draft pick. The play-action game is the foundation of Coach Matt LaFleur’s offense, therefore the running back position is too crucial to be left up to chance. Jordan Love, the quarterback, and the Packers’ offense were arguably most effective while Jones was healthy, so this is certainly no coincidence. It’s up to Jacobs now to carry it through.
What’s at stake? Similar to Jones, who missed six games due to injuries during the previous season, Jacobs too experienced ailments in 2023. He was out from the final four Raiders games due to a quad injury. Of Jacobs’ five NFL seasons, the most productive was obviously the previous one. He set career lows with 805 yards of total offense and an average of 3.5 yards per carry. Nonetheless, Jacobs has a short injury history—he has missed just three games in total over the past three seasons. He averaged 4.2 yards per attempt over his career and gained over 1,000 yards of rushes in three of his five seasons.
