NCAA News: The Memphis Tigers basketball team has made unbelievable NCAA history, surpassing the accomplishments of any other team.

The NCAA announced on Thursday that the Memphis basketball program had engaged in recruiting violations in the 2021–2022 academic year.

According to an NCAA press release, the infractions involved in-home visits with prospects prior to the appropriate recruiting period based on the prospect’s high school year. These infractions are distinct from the ones related to the recently resolved IARP case.

Memphis has been hit with the following penalties as a result: the program will now serve an additional year of probation on top of the three years of probation from the IARP punishment; additionally, all recruiting-related communications will be prohibited for two weeks; the number of in-person recruiting days will be reduced by four; two official visits will be forfeited; and a $5,000 fine.

The NCAA withheld the identity of the participant in the The infractions were committed by the Tigers’ staff, although they did state that “one individual in the case has contested the alleged violations, and his portion of the case will be considered by the Committee on Infractions during an infractions hearing before the release of the committee’s full decision.”

According to the NCAA press release, the decision will also include findings and penalties for the person who has contested the violations.

The NCAA stated that until the Committee on Infractions issues its final ruling, it will not comment on the situation.

The university acknowledged in a prepared statement that there had been infractions and that it has cooperated with the NCAA to discuss a possible solution.
