The Chiefs appear to be having a lot more fun during training camp this year than in previous seasons, pulling off trick plays and keeping focused while still demonstrating that they can enjoy their time on the field as well. Monday gave the clearest example yet of Kansas City’s devastating freedom, as Andy Reid devised what could be his most brilliant play to date.
Fans are naturally anxious about Kadarius Toney’s ability to catch the football, but Reid demonstrated his confidence by designing a quadruple pass play that demands Toney to catch the ball twice. Even better, the play worked.
For those scoring at home, that’s Patrick Mahomes to Toney, back to Mahomes, back to Toney, and down the field to Xavier Worthy, most likely for a touchdown. Toney played quarterback in high school, throwing for over 6,500 yards in his junior and senior years, so he’s more than capable of executing a trick pass. He was almost a part of one of the greatest trick plays in Chiefs history, but it was called off due to an offsides penalty, so perhaps this is Toney’s chance for redemption.
