The Cardinals added Fedde and Pham on Monday in a three-team trade, with the goal of strengthening their pitching depth and providing them with more right-handed power against left-handed pitchers.
While the White Sox got three prospects from the Dodgers, the Cardinals traded Edman to them.
As per Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak, Pham, 36, will be active in Game 2 of the series against the Rangers after joining the team on Tuesday.
The squad will see Fedde, 31, in Chicago on Thursday as the Cardinals start a four-game series against the rival Cubs. Fedde last threw on Saturday.
With the rebuilding White Sox, Fedde was 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA over 21 starts this season. Fedde has struck out 108 hitters and walked 34 in 121 2/3 innings, holding the opposition to a.227 average. Pham, a 2014–18 Cardinals player, hit.266 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 70 games this season.
July 28: RHP Kyle Leahy from Triple-A Memphis is recalled by the Cardinals, who designate RHP Giovanny Gallegos for assignment.
On Sunday morning, the Cardinals placed 32-year-old Gallegos on the disabled list in an attempt to perhaps free up money.
According to a source, the team decided to DFA Gallegos on Saturday night and notified the seasoned reliever of the decision on Sunday morning.
Gallegos, who was traded by the Yankees to the Cardinals in 2018, is making nearly $6 million this year. He also has a $500,000 buyout on a 2025 club option, which could have brought in $6.5 million.
