The Blazers lose Jerami Grant and a 2028 second-round pick (via Golden State). It’s easy to see how this trade benefits Portland.

The Blazers are poised to have the worst record in the West this season. Jerami Grant, a win-now player, does little for them. In fact, his contract, which continues through 2027-28 (when he has a $36.4 million player option), could be detrimental to a rebuilding team.

This trade eliminates that and provides Portland with many draft picks, some untapped potential from Jett Howard, plus veterans Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt who should be able to be traded.

The Blazers had no plans to trade Grant, who has four years left on his contract, but they can get two future first-round picks for him right now, as well as a lottery pick from last year’s draft in Jett Howard.

Portland can then trade Vincent and Vanderbilt for additional assets in the future.
