According to Kyle Shanahan, Bill Belichick turned down a chance to become a coach for the San Francisco 49ers.
Football offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan of San Francisco is well-respected. This season, he made an effort to appoint one of the best defensive coordinators in NFL history to the 49ers squad.
On “The TK Show Podcast,” which is hosted by Tim Kawakami, an Athletic columnist, Shanahan said that he made a job proposal to former New England coach Bill Belichick, who departed the Patriots last offseason after winning six Super Bowls.
“Yes, I did. I made contact with him,” Shanahan remarked. He loves football so much that you never know what he’ll do for the game. It amazes me that he isn’t the head coach of a team right now. It surprises me since I know what I would do if I owned a team, and you want to avoid offending someone as important as Bill Belichick.
I gave him the option to do whatever he wanted to do because I knew he just loved the game.
Speaking during a press conference is Bill Belichick.
Belichick inquired about a head coaching job with Atlanta after leaving the Patriots, and the team picked Raheem Morris. He will work as a TV analyst this season after declining offers to become a head coach.
After firing Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator, the 49ers looked for a new one this offseason. Prior to elevating Nick Sorensen to the post, Shanahan stated that he had offered the job to Belichick.
“Would you consider it?” I asked him. Shanahan thought back. “He was extremely kind and appreciative, but he respectfully declined.”
