A few athletes from Oregon State have traveled across the Pacific to represent and compete for her countries.

A few athletes from Oregon State have traveled to Japan to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The group, which represents several nations in various sports, consists of former Beavers, active athletes, and a few potential future stars at OSU. This is how the situation has changed thus far.

After playing for Salt Lake Community College, Stepto signed with Oregon State and is a member of the Australian national team. This past weekend, Australia played the United States, and although they were unable to pull off the upset, they did drive th

e Americans to the limit. Stepto threw for 7.1 innings, striking out three batters and giving up just one earned run in an outstanding performance. Australia’s record was poor overall, losing to the United States 2-1.of 1-4 placed fifth overall out of the medals. Nevertheless, Stepto gave a strong performance, and it will be wonderful to see her in orange for the upcoming season.

Although the U.S. gymnastics team struggled during qualification, the performance of the future Oregon State gymnast was excellent. With a score of 15.166 in the vault and 14.100 in the floor exercises, Carey placed second overall and third overall.

With that, she advances to the finals of both events, and Carey narrowly missed the all-around final. Jade scored 56.265 to finish ninth overall, but only two players from each nation can move on to the finals. Carey was just outside the top three overall, behind Americans Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee.

Ever since Jade will not be participating in the team final; you can still catch her in Tokyo for two more opportunities. The vault finals are slated to begin at 1:00 AM Pacific time on Sunday, August 1. The floor workout finals are scheduled for August 2nd, Monday, at 1:45 PM Pacific time.

Amar Dhesi of Oregon State will not compete in Olympic wrestling until August 5th, when the Men’s Freestyle 125 kg event gets underway. Olympic wrestling begins on Sunday, August 1. Starting at 7:30 Pacific Time, that event is a part of a block that also includes the Women’s Freestyle 53 kg and the Men’s Freestyle 74 kg.

Gibson, an Oregon State player from 2011 to 2015, and Team Puerto Rico had a difficult start to the season on Monday night. Puerto Gibson scored just one point in Rico’s 97-55 loss to China. Thursday night at 6:00 PM Pacific, the team will play Belgium, giving them an opportunity to bounce back.

A few coaches from Oregon State have also traveled to Tokyo. As an assistant coach for Team USA in Softball, Laura Berg, the head softball coach at OSU, recently won Silver. As a member of Team USA, Berg has already taken home four Olympic medals (three gold and one silver). American Adeline Gray’s personal coach at the Olympics is Nate Engel, assistant coach for wrestling. Gray is one of the top contenders for the gold in Tokyo, where he competes in the 76 kg Freestyle event.
