Following his fractured hand, 49ers athlete Spencer Burford wrote a devastating message to his teammates and fans.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to address you all directly after recent events. As many of you know, I’ve suffered a fractured hand, and I’m reaching out because I’ve been struggling to find the right words to express how much this injury is affecting me.

First and foremost, I want to extend my deepest apologies to my teammates and coaching staff. Being part of this incredible team means everything to me, and it breaks my heart to think that I’ll be sidelined and unable to contribute on the field as I’ve always strived to.

I know the timing of this injury couldn’t be worse, and I feel a profound sense of disappointment that I’m not able to push myself and the team towards our goals right now.

The physical pain from the injury is nothing compared to the emotional and psychological toll it’s taking. I’ve always prided myself on my resilience and my ability to contribute in any way I can.

To be forced into the position of watching from the sidelines, feeling helpless and disconnected from the game I love, is incredibly difficult. I can’t fully express how much I hate not being out there with you all, fighting for every yard and every point.

To my teammates, please know that even though I’m not physically with you on the field, my spirit and support are unwavering. I’m going to be doing everything I can from the sidelines to support each of you, whether it’s offering encouragement, helping with strategy, or just being a shoulder to lean on.

I believe in each of you, and I know this team has the talent and the heart to push through this challenge and come out stronger on the other side.

To our fans, your support means the world to me. I’m so grateful for the love and encouragement you’ve shown, and I want you to know that I’m working hard every day to recover and get back to the level of play that you deserve to see. This setback is tough, but I’m committed to coming back stronger and more determined than ever.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time. I promise to give everything I’ve got in my recovery, and I look forward to rejoining you all soon.

With gratitude and determination,

Spencer Burford
