They fired him as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Rays after making the appropriate arrangements.
The Tampa Bay Rays may be done for the season, but the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks upcoming World Series game will feature a lot of the team’s relics.
Naturally, the first player on the list has to be Evan Longoria, who was a member of the Rays from 2008 until the 2017 season and is still regarded as the greatest player in franchise history. Fans may now see a statue of Longoria being unveiled by the team as they approach Tropicana Field. According to a recent piece by Topkin, after Longoria’s playing days are officially gone, the team will eventually retire his #3.
But Longoria isn’t the only one with past links to the Rays. Marc Topkin enumerated fourteen individuals who had either performed or coached for the Rays:
After being selected by the Rays in the eighth round of the 2010 draft, Kelly spent three seasons working in the organization’s farm system before moving to Korea, where he was greatly successful. Since her 2019 return to the United States, Kelly has been an integral part of the Diamondbacks’ lineup.
Kelly made 30 starts for Arizona in the 2023 season, going 12-8 overall with a 3.29 ERA | 3.85 FIP and 3.2 fWAR over 177 2⁄3 innings thrown.
