According to sources close to ESPN, infielder Amed Rosario and the Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal. Rosario, 28, should get at-bats at shortstop, second base, and possibly the corner outfield positions because of his powerful bat against left-handed pitchers.

Over his seven-year career, Rosario has been a player for the New York Mets, Cleveland Guardians, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Prior to the 2021 season, he was part of the trade that sent Francisco Lindor to the Mets, sending him to Cleveland as a former top prospect.

Forever is Rosario.272 hitter who just had a season in which he hit.263 for Los Angeles and Cleveland. His career high of 15 home runs in 2019 indicates that he doesn’t have much power to give.

The Rays’ concern that they won’t have star shortstop Wander Franco for the season may be indicated by his signing. He is not currently participating in spring training after being detained in the Dominican Republic during the offseason. An investigation is ongoing.

This summer, the squad acquired Jose Caballero in a trade in addition to Rosario.

Despite winning 99 games the previous season, Tampa Bay is expected to struggle in light of Franco’s departure and the injuries to Jeffrey Springs, Shane McClanahan, and Drew Rasmussen. Additionally, they participate in a loaded American League East that includes the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Orioles.
