Another unfortunate sequence of injuries for the Boston Red Sox.

As he heals from a rib injury, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas is allegedly starting to step up the intensity of his swings, per MLB.com. It appears that Casas is on a positive trajectory. Boston will keep a careful eye on his condition day-to-day.

Only 22 games have been played by the 24-year-old Casas thus far in the 2024 season. In that time, he is slashing.244/344/.513/.857. Before the current season began, Casas was a well-liked breakout prospect; unfortunately, injuries have not helped him.

In 2023, Casas performed admirably. He had a.856 OPS and blasted 24 home homers. Overall, the Red Sox fell short of their expectations, but Casas showed promise as the team’s first baseman the times ahead. Boston, which is 53-46 in 2024, is hoping Casas can get back to full strength soon so the team can contend for a postseason berth.

The Red Sox intend to compete in 2024.
The American League East leaders, the Baltimore Orioles, are seven games ahead of the Red Sox. Boston trails the New York Yankees and Baltimore in the division and is now ranked third.

The Red Sox, however, are only two games behind the Royals of Kansas City for the third and last AL Wild Card place. If the season ended today, the AL Wild Card teams would be the Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Royals. However, Boston has plenty of time to make up the lost ground.

The return of key players like Triston Casas will be vital if the Red Sox are to go far in the postseason. Boston might potentially make a trade before the approaching 2024 deadline. Even if the Red Sox have performed reasonably well in 2024, they would still gain from expanding their roster.

Fans of the Red Sox are thrilled as the team attempts to compete. Seeing how aggressive they are in the lead-up to the trade deadline will be fascinating. While Casas works to make a quick recovery, the team will keep an eye on his injury status.
