He has passed away. Regretfully, the Georgia Bulldogs‘ head coach has revealed the passing of his all-time best player.

At his Athens, Georgia, home on Friday, Vince Dooley, a Hall of Fame football coach at the University of Georgia who won more games in 25 years than any other coach in school history, passed away. He was ninety years old. The university made an announcement on his demise.

Dooley had been hospitalized recently, though no reason was given. When Dooley was hired to lead the Georgia Bulldogs in 1963, he was just 31 years old and had no prior head coaching experience.

 

Prior to that, he spent five years as Auburn University’s quarterback coach and three years as the head coach of freshmen.

Alma mater. He was aware that taking on the new post at Georgia was an unexpected decision. “In 2014, I could never have hired myself due to my qualifications,” he said in an interview with The Red & Black, the student publication.
