Breaking: A star player has perished in a car accident, according to disturbing reports that the Philadelphia Phillies have received.
According to Sánchez, Alexeis Azuaje, a prospect for the Phillies, and two other people perished in their Ford Fiesta after it struck a utility pole. The accident resulted in injuries to a fourth person.
During the 2018 International Signing Period, Azuaje, 21, originally signed with the Phillies as a middle infield prospect.
At the time of his Philadelphia signing, he had been 16 years old.
The 2022 season saw the second baseman rated as a top-30 prospect in the system and he put up some impressive numbers (lifetime slash line of.292/.348/.474), but injuries and other uncontrollable events prevented him from moving past Clearwater.
He participated in the minor league season in 2019, but because to the pandemic in 2020, he was unable to compete canceled. He came back in 2021, but his visa was not activated until late June, most likely because of problems akin to those Simon Muzziotti faced.
Azuaje played only half of the season in 2021. He was injured in 2022, missing a week of action before his season ended in August due to injury a few weeks after he returned. Because he was wounded in 2023, he was never able to play.
