When Jenna Prandini was a junior at Oregon in 2015, she was selected for her first World Athletics Championship team.

She repeated the feat seven years later, placing third in the women’s 200 final with a season-best time of 22.01.

Two-time Olympian Prandini, who took home a silver medal in the 4×100-relay in Beijing in 2015, was leading the final on Sunday as it turned, but she was unable to keep up with eventual winner Abby Steiner or runner-up Tamara Clark’s closing pace.

The Kentucky native and NCAA champion Steiner finished in a personal best time of 21.77, which led the world. Clark scored 21.92 points.

The 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Gabby Thomas, the reigning U.S. champion, came in last in 22.47.

Raevyn Rogers qualifies for Oregon 22.
It will be Raevyn Rogers’ return home in three weeks.

In the women’s 800, the former Duck qualified for the world championships by finishing third with a season-best time of 1:57.96.

With 200 meters remaining, she was in sixth place when she used her kick to move into qualifying position.

Rogers, who competes for the Union Athletics Club in Portland, won silver at the 2019 world championships and bronze at the Olympics last summer.

Olympic champion Athing Mu prevailed in 1:57.16, holding off a fierce challenge from Ajee Wilson, who caught up to Mu in the final stretch and ultimately placed second.

In a final without the participation of the current world champion Donavan Brazier, who qualified for Oregon22 automatically after competing in the preliminary round on Thursday, Bryce Hoppel won the men’s 800 in 1:44.60.

Jonah Koech and Brandon Miller, who placed second and third, were also selected for the American squad.

With a time of 1:44.74, Koech achieved the world championship standard, demonstrating his decisiveness. In 1:45.19, Miller dived over the finish line to displace Clayton Murphy, the bronze medallist from the 2016 Olympics.

Both 5K champions are won by Bowerman Track Club.
For the Bowerman Track Club, the morning was going well.

In the men’s and women’s 5,000 finals, the Portland-based professional training group placed 1-2, led by championship performances from Elise Cranny and Grant Fisher.

In a commanding performance for the Olympian, Fisher set a meet record of 13:03.86. He also finished second in the 10,000, securing his spot in the World Athletics Championships twice.

Woody Kincaid, Fisher’s training partner, finished in 13:06.70 after moving up from fourth to second place in the last lap. Abdihamid Nur of Northern Arizona finished third in 13:08.63.

Cooper Teare, Cole Hocker, and other former Oregon stars withdrew from the race on Sunday morning, while Paul Chelimo, the defending American and two-time Olympic medallist, struggled to finish in 11th place in 13:24.82.

A month ago at the Prefontaine Classic, Cranny was a late scratch from the women’s 10,000 championship race. She returned to the track on Sunday morning and won the national championship.
