It’s unbelievable that the Cubs fired their manager.

The Cubs surprised the baseball world on Monday by announcing that Craig Counsell, a former manager of the Brewers, would succeed David Ross as manager, as first reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The problem with this news, though, is that the Cubs never made it clear whether Ross was fired or resigned from the team—he was signed through the 2025 season, too—which left many fans perplexed.

The Cubs only made the playoffs in Ross’s first season of management, and this year’s playoff run was narrowly avoided due to a few losing streaks.

Even though Ross is in a terrible circumstance, MLB fans managed to lighten the mood by creating memes on social media that were exactly right for Ross. View a few of the responses.
