ANN ARBOR, Michigan On Sunday, July 3, Warde Manuel, the director of athletics at the University of Michigan Donald R. Shepherd School of Athletics, announced the appointment of Tracy Smith, a past National Coach of the Year, as head baseball coach.

“We are excited to welcome Tracy Smith, his wife, Jaime, and their family to U-M to lead our baseball program,” Manuel said. “To put it briefly, Tracy is among the nation’s top collegiate baseball brains. He is an industrious recruiter with the ability to assess, project, and nurture talent at the pinnacle of this sport.”

“My family and I are proud to join the University of Michigan family, and this storied Michigan baseball program,” stated Smith. “I know the great talent and history of our program since I played on the field with guys like Casey Close, Jim Abbott, Barry Larkin, and many more. Thank you to Warde Manuel, Rob Rademacher, the staff, and our student-athletes for giving me this chance to further U-M baseball’s legacy and my friend and colleague Erik Bakich’s recent triumphs. I am proud to be leading our next group of champions, and I know that the Big Ten Conference and the University of Michigan have great expectations for us. “Go Blue!”
