For a short while, I worked as a general assignment reporter for the Bronx Times and as a production assistant for SNY-TV and MLB.com. Valenzuela received his degree from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
Nine years after he left the Texas Rangers as manager due to the scandal of an extramarital affair, Ron Washington was hired by the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, giving him another opportunity to manage in Major League Baseball.
Washington served as the third base coach for the Atlanta Braves from 2016 until the current campaign. Having come up short with the Rangers before, he won a championship with them. The 71-year-old is regarded by the Angels as a great baseball instructor and quirky individual.
As depicted in the film “Moneyball,” Washington is acknowledged for having taught Scott Hatteberg the fundamentals of first base during the Oakland Athletics’ early 2000s season. Marcus Semien, the 2023 World Series winner, was also elevated to above-average status by Washington after rigorous difficulties in defense early in his career.

“He truly feels like a father figure to me,” Semien told the Dallas Morning News about Washington. Every day after work, we’d sit on the bench and chat about life and baseball. I can now call him whenever I want to talk. I adore listening to his viewpoint.”
Although he has served as an inspiration to current Major League Baseball players, Washington has also struggled personally, which has put his illustrious career in the majors in jeopardy. His alleged cocaine addiction, which resulted in a failed MLB drug test, and the affair that drove him to step down are among his setbacks.
Washington said, “I broke her trust,” during the 2014 press conference announcing his resignation from the Rangers. “I’m apologizing to her and owning up to my mistake today. I’m in a really dark place right now. I apologize for betraying my wife’s confidence and for disappointing my coaches and players.”
