due to her husband, a significant Lynx player has formally announced his retirement.

Maya Moore realized it was time to finally stop her basketball career, four years after leaving.

The Minnesota Lynx player left the WNBA in 2019 to assist her now-husband Jonathan Irons in obtaining his release from jail by having his 50-year sentence overturned in 2020.

Irons married Moore shortly after his release and welcomed their first child, Jonathan Jr., in February. She announced her retirement on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday.

Moore had previously expressed uncertainty about returning to basketball, but she told The Associated Press that it was time to retire.

“Over the last year, it felt right to simply close the chapter,” Moore explained. “Talk about it in a joyous tone.

I’m delighted to provide clarification to the basketball world.”

Moore admitted that the thought of her son and husband missing out on seeing her play in the WNBA didn’t deter her from continuing to play. Irons stated that he supported Moore’s choice.

“It was totally her decision and you know it brewed from her heart,” he told me. “I was going to root for her no matter what she did.

I’d been right there at the stadium, saying, “Go girl!” “Take that jump shot and win the championship!”
