After many years of waiting the Sooner softball head coach patty Gasso has welcomed Another potential player.
Patty Gasso, an NFCA Hall of Fame head coach, is entering her 31st season at the University of Oklahoma in 2025.
She has transformed the OU softball program into a national powerhouse and has cemented her spot among the country’s top college softball coaches.
Oklahoma has won eight national championships (2000, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024), is the only NCAA softball program to win four consecutive national championships, and is one of only three programs in NCAA history to have won more than two.
Gasso has made it to the Women’s College World Series 17 times and has proceeded to the postseason in all 30 seasons (no tournament in 2020).
With 34 seasons as a head coach, Gasso has a career collegiate coaching record of 1,676-411-3 (.802) and an OU record of 1,515-352-2 (.811).
She finished her tenure in the Big 12 as the winningest coach, men’s or women’s, in league history, with more than twice as many overall victories as any other coach in OU history.
Under her leadership, the Sooners won 15 Big 12 regular season championships, including an unprecedented 11 straight from 2012 to 2023, as well as nine conference tournament crowns.
Gasso’s teams have finished second or higher 24 times in the Big 12’s 28-year history, which began in 1996.
Numerous Sooner players have thrived under Gasso’s instruction, earning national, regional, and conference distinction.
Most recently, Jocelyn Alo helped lead the Sooners to back-to-back championships, earning USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year honors in 2021 and 2022.
Keilani Ricketts was named USA Softball Player of the Year twice, in 2012 and 2013.
Gasso has recruited and coached 84 All-Americans, 153 All-Region honorees, and 201 All-Conference winners at Oklahoma.
