Colin Kelly, an offensive lineman for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, has been suspended by the Canadian Football League for two games following a positive test result for the prohibited substances GHRP-2 and metabolite (GHRP-2 1-3 acid).
Both medications are thought to have performance-enhancing qualities and are growth hormone secretagogues.
A player’s first offense under the CFL’s joint drug policy with the CFLPA is a two-game suspension if they test positive or fail to submit a sample. A fourth infraction entails a lifetime ban, a third offense results in a one-year suspension, and a second offense entails a nine-game suspension.
Players on suspension are unable to take part in postseason or regular season competitions. The Club may decide to permit players to take part in additional team activities, like practices, meetings, preseason games, and training camp.
Kelly was traded to Hamilton in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft after appearing in two games for the Edmonton Elks in 2022. At tackle, he would go on to start 14 games.
The 33-year-old has participated in 90 CFL games with Hamilton, Edmonton (2017–22), and Ottawa (2014–15) over the course of seven seasons. The Longview, Washington native, who stands six feet five and weighs 298 pounds, has also played in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs (2013–14) and San Francisco 49ers (2016).
February 14 is when Kelly is expected to become a free agent. Next season, he’ll be required to submit to a mandatory drug test and undergo an assessment and clinical evaluation to see if he needs more counseling.
