In the world of sports, it is not unusual for ardent supporters to demand leadership changes when their team is underperforming.

In sports like baseball, football, hockey, and basketball, fans will seek to replace a management or head coach if they aren’t meeting their standards or winning their support.

Oli Marmol, the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, is now the person that fans want fired the most out of the four major sports. The leader of the 11-time World Series champs has been receiving calls from fans on talk shows and social media, and now those voices are reaching Busch Stadium, the team’s home ballpark.

During the weekend series between the Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox on May 17–19, two messages went viral due to the way they were broadcast.

A picture of Busch Stadium’s (and many other ballparks’) message board, where fans may write comments like “Happy Birthday,” “Happy Anniversary,” or even for that unfortunate guy Mark in Milwaukee who was confined into the “friend zone,” was shared on X May 17 by user @VanHicklestein. However, there were two messages posted on the Busch Stadium message board over the weekend.

It said, “Happy 10th B-Day, Bethany,” on the board. beneath which was written, “Please Fire Marmol.”

Since Marmol is still the Cardinals’ manager as of right now, he didn’t lose his job. FanSided, the site that broke the story initially, notes that someone might be disciplined for not reviewing the message before it was made public and visible to all ballparks. Furthermore, there have previously been unscreened messages distributed at Busch Stadium.

“The person who committed this doesn’t even know Bethany.” However, I commend them,” Bennie (@DenverBennie) said in a comment on the article.

The president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, John Mozeliak, has also had to deal with requests from supporters demanding that he be fired.
