Joel Embiid, his illness is becoming worse.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Joel Embiid, the center for the Philadelphia 76ers, is out of action for at least the next weekend due to a lateral meniscus injury to his left knee.
Embiid will now miss a game on Saturday against Brooklyn in addition to the game scheduled for Thursday night against Utah.
Tuesday night during a defeat to the Golden State Warriors, Embiid suffered a left knee injury. The injury was discovered by an MRI that he had. The 76ers are now completing their rehab strategy.
After Jonathan Kuminga of Golden State fell on the 7-foot-2 Embiid’s left leg, Embiid was injured.
Embiid’s hopes of winning an MVP award for a second consecutive season are in jeopardy because he has already missed 12 games this season. In most cases, players must participate in 65 regular-season games under the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement in order to be considered for awards like MVP or All-NBA teams.
Embiid has maintained his MVP-caliber performance while well. At 35.3 points per game, he leads the NBA in scoring. He also averages 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists. Jan. 22 saw him set a career-high 70 points and 18 rebounds in a 133-124 victory over San Antonio.
